Just Another Beautiful Day

Barack Obama speaks for me as much as John McCain does. They are both on equal footing when trying to comprehend what the common person's life is like. What amazes me is that there are people who still believe the democrats aren't exactly like the republicans in basically looking after themselves and their buddies,
in staying entrenched in Washington and keeping that paycheck coming in, in mouthing empty promises about what they believe and what they will do.

These same people are intelligent enough to see through the republican's bullshit, and know that it's basically dumb people who buy into their bullshit (unless it's the rich who will actually be benefitted), and yet they fall under the same spell because it's clothed in the empty rhetoric of the left.

Is it because we as humans desperately want something to believe in larger than ourselves. Is it the same reason we believe in ridiculous religions no matter how much their tenets don't hold water, the same reason we believe in conspiracy theories no matter how ludicrous they are. Just as long as SOMEONE is in control, as long as there is SOMEONE at the helm guiding our future. And then people have the gall to be amazed that Hitler was voted into power.

WHERE WERE YOU?

So today at work the country station was playing and they were having a memorial of sorts for 9/11...you know Never Forget, I'm Proud To Be An American by Lee Greenwood and that Alan Jackson song, but this one really just tore the heart out of me
TRIBUTE TO 9/11

which brings me back to where I actually was 7 years ago...sleeping. A phone call came in which my girlfriend at the time answered and sleepily handed the phone to me.

"yeah"
"Mark, turn it on channel 18...we're at war!"
"ummm what are you talking about Bob?"
"turn it on channel 18"

so I flipped the tv on and turned it to channel 18 (a little aside that's kind of important I DON'T HAVE cable tv just regular, Bob has cable) M*A*S*H is on

"HaHa Bob hilarious, I'm sleeping"
and I hung up

NOBUNNY LOVE VISIONS REVIEW

NOBUNNY LOVE VISIONS (BUBBLEDUMB RECORDS)
What if Little Richard had joined Hasil Adkins and recorded with Bill Spector,
Phil’s rigoddamndiculous brother, in Sanford and Son’s mobile recording unit?
Or what if GG Allin had been the svengali behind a boufannted girl group...having
them out raunch anybody while maintaining sweetness and light. It might not have sounded exactly like NOBUNNY, but it definitely would have resembled the spirit.

Handclaps, broken pianos, toilet bowl guitars, and whisky bottles full of piss used as maracas make up just a portion of this irresistible infection created for the wino in the alley, as well as the kids just discovering the joys of masturbation and drugs. Songs are about giving girls what they really want, prostitution, laughing instead of crying about failed relationships, and fun, fun, fun like the Beach Boys never knew.

When you’re used to life in a rubbish heap you can adapt and overcome or become part of the junk landscape. NOBUNNY has found the true path…the way to do both. Not just overcoming the detritus that society produces, but lifting it up and showing the beautiful side of it…and no, I don’t mean in an ironic kitschy way…I mean in the
same way you’d view a perfect sunset or ass. You see the beauty in trash in the way a buddhist koan could never teach you.

Nobunny loves You and Nobunny cares and the next time he's in town, if you've never been hugged by a horny, drunken muppet, you should seek him out. He's better than anything you'll find in the self help section of Bookman's.

A NIGHT WITH THE KING OF SOUL

epic party
acting like a fun loving asshole
drinking
good music with nutsacks exposed and rabid bunnymen getting down like the world's a cancer and the cure is in your own asshole (fun loving of course)

just need to be able to get to it
which you could with the right dance moves

speaking to great old friends
being spoken to by good new friends
one of those nights that will be remembered for decades
as long as Dionysus remains secluded in the bathroom

of course it has to be ruined

she needs something
like always
she, who almost could never be counted on to help in anyway
needs to charge her phone

and she can only do it in your car

the chance to spend half an hour with her
alone
instead of with the fun that is taking place all around
is not enthralling

try to explain
it all comes out wrong

spend the next half hour with her
arguing...so not alone
the party watching the petty horror that is your life unfold

get thee fuck out
flee to a familiar place

order some thing terrible (a long island with jagermeister...you are Dostoevsky's father) in the hopes of killing the terribleness that you're feeling
it doesn't...it's just more terribleness

and then you walk in

you who I hoped to see for the last
two days

at least the drink gave me the motivation
and drive
to so not be that person I would be
typically

easy flowing talk
followed by just walking around
not mattering where it is we're headed

late night diner
nothing is ordered
wait...you got coffee

drunken plans
what to do now
remembered the beers at my house

records
play records
drink beer
play more records

dancing on the picnic table in the front yard
at 4am
not giving a good gawddamn about anything
except this moment
and you

your black and red dress
enveloping your curves
the way I wish my hands were

your scent
a mix of hippy
(sage or patchouli...no idea..all I know is it's never smelled as good)
sweat, and beer still lingers in my car and makes me want to never leave

not even thinking about the fact
that you have to get on a bus at 8am
to go back
to the North Country

sun's up
no sleep
drunk since 10pm
surprisingly feel great

drive you to where you're staying
so you can pack

try and get me to come with you on the greyhound
want to
but know I should be responsible or make some attempt at it

drive you to the greyhound station
complete corporate fuckery
so I guess I am coming with you
but not on the greyhound
I am your greyhound

the next hours fly by
way too quick
the drive from Tucson to Phoenix has never been so short
did we even pass Toltec?

drop you off
and begin the ride back home

after almost veering off the highway for the fourth time
pull over at a rest area
to sleep
for two...
roasting with the sun thru the windshield, front seat reclined all the way back
...hours
smelling like shit and uncomfortable

wouldn't change it for anything

LIFE OF AN IDOT

HERE TIS

a selection of songs I'm completely feeling right now...encompassing too much to even talk about...and not in that brooding "woe is me" ennui you're probably thinking...much more of a "get off your ass and move" or at least break something and do a sommersault
dig it!

WRITING FOR PAY AIN'T EASY

before I started doing I thought it was (isn't that just like most things).
You know...listen to something you either like or hate, than write about it. But you not only have to entertain(which I think really is the number one job of most writing) but you have to inform as well, and you have to inform people who probably know nothing about what the hell you're talking about in the first place (obscure references might as well not be references at all)

and it all has to be under 275 words

so here was the second draft of my second review (the first was so fact filled and boring that I had to do the second one immediately after finishing the first)

DIGITAL LEATHER Sorcerer (GONER)
What can I tell you? I could tell you how heat affects one's mind.
I could list obscure bands as reference points (Factrix/Nervous
Gender/Gary Numan) or try to reach the masses and type Nine Inch Nails
and Depeche Mode, which would be like typing Led Zeppelin for a review
about Slayer. I could tell you how half this record is an evil genius
studio project, the other a full band performing live, but I'd rather
tell you a story.
A broken hand pleasures you in an abandoned alley somewhere off
the information superhighway. A thin stream of blood arcs out onto the
asphalt next to boxes of thrown out faded jpegs and deleted love
emails. Your inner sexual organs soon follow, jettisoned from your
body by the sonic reverberations that emanate from inside the club you
are standing behind. The music swelling destroys you from inside,
turning your guts to jelly and your brain to slime. If only this
fantasy could actually play out, if only the scads of hessian townies
and captains of the football team who screamed "WHIP IT!" at the kids
they didn't understand, before jumping out of their Camaros to reign
fists and feet down on their victims for the fashion trespasses they
had committed like an extreme Mr. Blackwell, could suffer this fate.
Attention: ElectroFecesToni&GuyWave DJs play
"Modulated/Simulated" or "Styrofoam" at your weekly Check Out My iPod
bash or do a disservice to all the little coked up girls that will be
rectified when said DJs parents play John Souza marches at their
funerals.
And The Urinals cover "Hologram" pleases me like no woman ever has.

third revision

DIGITAL LEATHER Sorcerer (GONER)
Digital Leather is local (regardless of what some other dipshits in town have to say) Tucsonan (by way of Yuma…and spent a couple years away in Phoenix before coming back) Shawn Foree’s musical output. Starting out in bands like the Screenz and Dickless Torso with an occasional venture off into black metal territory of Mere Mortals and even time with the Jay Reatard/Alicja Ttrout camps, Shawn ‘s steady job now is DL. It’s been a one man operation pretty much in the studio with differing lineups as a live act. This album is the first that captures both elements. While the current live act, which has stuff recorded but I have no idea when it will come out, is his best - Isaac Reyes(Swing Ding Amigos/SharkPants) on guitar, Sean Rousse on drums, Jason Baker on synth and Shawn on vox/guitar, the band assembled on side two (recorded at the second Gonerfest , one of the better musical events that happen every year in Memphis) consisted of members of Tokyo Electron plus one of their brothers, and did a bang up job.
While most bands in Tucson seem to fall under the spell of hanging out downtown so they can be the big fish in this pond. Digital Leather has been doing the opposite - touring and putting out records. They realize that no matter how big you are, this pond is dried up. The very nerve.
I could list obscure bands as reference points (Factrix/Nervous Gender/Gary Numan/Suicide) or try to reach the masses and type Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode, which would be like typing Led Zeppelin for a review about Slayer.
Lyrical content includes the ultimate sexual partner, airplane crashes, Naked Lunch style cut up prose, a young girls pubic region, the Beat It video taken to its logical albeit extreme end, and of course dystopian futuristic love.
Attention: ElectroFecesToni&GuyWave DJs play "Modulated/Simulated" or "Styrofoam" at your weekly Check Out My iPod bash cause your audience would like them way more than another one of your Cat Power/Coldplay mash ups.
And The Urinals cover "Hologram" pleases me like no woman ever has.

YOU THINK YOU'RE HAVING A BAD DAY?

As horrified travelers watched, a Greyhound Canada bus passenger repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated a young man who was sitting and sleeping beside him, a witness said Thursday.

"There was a bloodcurdling scream. I was just reading my book, and all of a sudden, I heard it," Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of the two men, said of the Wednesday night incident west of Portage la Prairie in Manitoba.

"It was like something between a dog howling and a baby crying, I guess you could say," Caton said. "I don't think it will leave me for a while."

Passengers exited the bus, and a trucker who stopped provided wrenches and crowbars to several of them so they could keep the suspect on the bus until police came, witnesses told Canadian TV.

The suspect was seized with the help of negotiators, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sgt. Steve Colwell said.

He said no formal charges had been filed, and he declined to identify either the man in custody or the victim, who were among 34 passengers.

There was no immediate indication of what prompted the attack, Colwell said. He said he didn't know how many times the victim was stabbed. Witnesses described the weapon as a large butcher-type knife.

Caton told The Associated Press that the victim appeared to be about 19 years old and had gotten on the bus in Edmonton.

Colwell praised the "extraordinary" level-headedness and bravery of the bus driver and passengers.

"What you saw and what you experienced would shake the most seasoned police officer. And yet I'm told that each of you acted swiftly, calmly and bravely," Colwell said. "As a result, no one else was injured."

The police received a call reporting the attack at 8:30 p.m. By the time they arrived at the scene, everyone except the knife-wielder and his victim had left the bus, Colwell said. The incident ended about 1:30 a.m.

The bus was traveling along the Trans-Canada Highway from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was about 45 minutes from its destination when the attack occurred, Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said in Dallas, Texas.

Caton said the victim was sleeping with his head leaning against the window when the attack happened. Caton said he shouted at the other passengers, many of whom also were sleeping, to leave.

"Everybody got off the bus. Me and a trucker that stopped and the Greyhound driver ran up to the door to maybe see if the guy was still alive or we could help or something like that," Caton said.

"And when we all got up, we saw that the guy was cutting off the guy's head. ... When he saw us, he came back to the front of the bus, told the driver to shut the door. He pressed the button and the door shut, but it didn't shut in time, and the guy was able to get his knife out and take a swipe at us," Caton said.

Caton told the AP that the attacker didn't sit near the victim when he first got on the bus, about an hour before the attack.

"He sat in the front at first; everything was normal," Caton said. "We went to the next stop, and he got off and had a smoke with another young lady there. When he got on the bus again, he came to the back near where I was sitting. He put his bags in the overhead compartment. He didn't say a word to anybody. He seemed totally normal."

Half an hour later, the attack began, Caton told the AP. "There was no rage or anything. He was like a robot, stabbing the guy."

The incident occurred on the first of two Greyhound Canada buses that were traveling together, Wambaugh said. The bus was carrying 37 passengers. As many passengers as possible among those not directly involved in the incident were transferred to the second bus, she said.

Others were taken to a hotel in Brandon, where they were met by Greyhound managers and police, Wambaugh said.

Once they are released, Greyhound will take them by bus to Winnipeg, and "we will do whatever is required to help them, and that includes counseling," she added.

Wambaugh declined to comment further. "I don't want to compromise the investigation," she said.

TORONTO (CBS) ― A 40-year-old man who witnesses say stabbed and beheaded his seat mate aboard a Greyhound bus traveling across Canada made his first court appearance Friday on second degree murder charges. Police offered no motive for the savage attack against a man who friends described as an easygoing carnival worker.

Vince Weiguang Li, of Edmonton, Alberta, his feet shackled, shuffled into a courtroom for a procedural hearing in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with his head bowed. He did not reply when the judge asked him if he was going to get a lawyer, and only nodded slightly when asked whether he was exercising his right not to speak. He was not required to enter a plea.

Li's right hand was tightly bandaged, possibly due to handling the knife he's alleged to have used to attack his victim, reports the Winnipeg Free Press.

The prosecutor asked for a psychiatric assessment, but the judge said he wanted to give Li a chance to meet with his lawyer about that. Li's next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

Authorities have not released the victim's name or other details about Li. They also have not commented on the details of the attack, which occurred Wednesday night as the bus - en route from Edmonton to Winnipeg, Manitoba - traveled a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway through the Canadian Prairies.

Friends of the 22-year-old victim, however, identified him as Tim McLean, saying he was headed to Winnipeg after working with the carnival in Edmonton.

William Caron, 23, said his brother was supposed to pick McLean up at the bus depot in Winnipeg. When McLean did not show up, his brothers went to McLean's father's house, where they learned of his murder, he said.

Caron said McLean was quiet, though he liked to socialize with friends. He was small - about 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds - and tried to steer clear of trouble, he said.

"From what I hear, this other guy is three times his size," Caron said. "All the time I've known Tim, he's never been the type of guy to get into a fight with. He always kept to himself when there's strangers around."

Friends started a Facebook group called "R.I.P. Tim" after news of the attack.

"He was a great person, he was kind, thoughtful, and he did not deserve this. I feel for his parents and sisters and his lil bro," Jossiee Kehleer wrote on the site. She called him "a nice, caring guy," in an interview by instant message, but declined to say more.

Witnesses described a grisly murder that occurred as some were napping and others watching "The Legend of Zorro" on the bus's television screens.

Shortly after passengers reboarded the bus following a break, the suspect - for no apparent reason - stabbed the man sitting next to him several dozen times as passengers fled in horror, witnesses said. He then severed the man's head, displayed it and began hacking at the body.

Garnet Caton, who was sitting just one seat in front of the two men, said he did not hear the two speak to each other before the attack.

"We heard this bloodcurdling scream and turned around, and the guy was standing up, stabbing this guy repeatedly," Caton said.

Caton said the driver stopped the bus when he became aware of the attack and passengers raced off. A short while later, Caton said he re-boarded along with the bus driver and a trucker who had stopped to see what was happening.

He said the suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and "was cutting his head off" with a large hunting knife.

"When he was attacking him, he was calm," said Caton. "There was no rage or anything. He was just like a robot stabbing the guy."

The attacker turned toward them and the three men quickly left the bus, blocking the door as the attacker slashed at them through an opening. Caton said the driver disabled the vehicle after the attacker tried to drive it away.

As the three guarded the door with a crow bar and a hammer, the attacker went back to the body and calmly came to the front of the bus to show off the head, Caton said.

Cody Olmstead, another passenger, said the man "dropped the head and went back and started cutting the body." Olmstead said the man later use the head to taunt police.

Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said there were 37 passengers aboard.

The victim had been on the bus since Edmonton. Caton said the attacker boarded the bus in Brandon, Manitoba, about 80 miles west of Portage La Prairie.

The suspect had been on the bus about an hour and initially did not sit near the victim, Caton said. But he changed seats after a rest stop.

GETTING PAID TO WRITE...WOO HOO!!!!

here's the first album review I have had printed in the Tucson Weekly
this is the unedited version (printed version gets edited down for column space)

THE RESONARS "Nonetheless blue" (Get Hip)

What do you do if you've got songs, can play many instruments, but are
surrounded by apathetic layabouts? Well if you're Matt Rendon (of
Knockout Pills, Vultures, and even Marshmallow Overcoat occasionally)
you DIY to create your perfect band.

This is the Resonars third album and continues the Zombies, Byrds, and
Remains style he's been mining since it's inception. A Love Generation
artifact distilled in this age of hate. The perfect balance of
nostalgia and knowing that nostalgia is false. We were never as happy,
and the past was never as perfect as we remember it. Still we
romanticize it. This is no mere rehash however, as the album is strong
enough to stand on it's own for people who have never heard of those
bands, as well as surpassing some of the "classics" of that time for
fans of the genre. Songs like "Places You Have Been" and "Sinking Is
Slow" with their dark melancholy vibe stick with the listener long
after they're done.

Matt's voice while singing about something troubling still soothes,
and while telling you you can have "What Ever You Want" implies all
the tragic roads that can lead us down. The difference between the
backing vocals and the leads are pretty amazing as well since it's all
one man.

It's the album Charles Schmid listened to while cruising down Speedway
long into old age. It's the record the Dearly Beloved would have
recorded if not for that fateful last trip to LA. It's the hero of a
film noir knowing he's going down, and was instrumental in his own
demise.

In the end we are shown that the pain and loss are worth feeling for
they give proof that we are alive and that is always better than it's
opposite; if for nothing else than to be able to hear the next
Resonars album.
